The Russian Orthodox Church maintains the Julian Calendar and Christmas is thus celebrated here in Russia on January 7th. Paul and I were hoping to make it back by then, to get a double dose of yule this year, but it looks like we might just miss it. Regardless, Grandfather Frost (in Russian, Дед Мороз or Ded Moroz), a Santa-like figure with a little Russian flair, passes through with the gifts on New Year's Eve, so we miss him either way. Above is a picture of the big guy with Putin, who I presume is double-checking Frost's naughty/nice list.
