Communion

The gown Arturo was to wear for his baptism has been in my Norwegian family for over 250 years and is normally housed at the Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustri Museum in Trondheim, Norway. I wore the gown for my baptism, as did my brothers, my mom, my grandmother, my great-grandfather and plenty of great-greats and other family members (including Alexander Kielland!) before that. My mom and aunt (who maintain borrowing rights) arranged to have it sent to Alaska in time for Arturo's baptism, but some issues with customs delayed delivery until after the event. However, it did arrive in time for Turo to wear it for his communion a few days later. Here are a few pictures of him in his royal garb, fitting in well with his ornate Orthodox surroundings, and looking satisfied after a thorough blessing and his first taste of real food (bread and wine!).

Cameron, Sonja's nephew was also baptized in this special gown years ago.

Arturo appears to be happily wearing the gown and Cameron well he cried the entire time.

Funny. The truth is, Arturo didn't have to wear the gown very long because he just took communion in it. Considering how tight it was on his round belly, I'm sure he would have put up a real fight given a little more time in it!
