Arturo turned 11 months the day before yesterday. Yikes! He's growing up so fast!
Some of his latest developments:
- Taking a few steps here and there
- Frequently standing 'no hands'
- Sleeping in his own bed (crib)
- Sleeping all night(!)
- Saying "hi!" or, rather, "hahhheh!" (he loves to say this into the phone, so give us a call!)
- Pointing at food and opening wide (presumably this means "get that in my mouth, now!")
- Trying to put on his own clothes (this amounts to mashing socks against his feet and hats against his head, so he's go the idea, but it does not approach him effectively 'dressing' himself)
- Torturing Pedro, who unfortunately rewards hard yanks and pinches with desperate licks and (to Turo) fun-sounding yelps. This is really sad to watch. HELP! We're working on teaching Arturo to be gentle and to pet with an open hand, but it's slow-going. Please feel free to send advice!
Arturo inherited a lot of new toys from a little boy in a neighboring building who moved last week. He could not be happier about it. This afternoon I took some pictures of him with a couple of his new acquisitions. Above, he's sitting on one of the toys, a little pushy car he can scoot around on. Below is a video of him pushing a similar cart around the apartment. This has become one of his preferred modes of transportation.
Here's a shot of Arturo accidentally caught in the act of reaching for Pedro's hair. You can see he's uncertain about his decision to do so, but it's like he can't help himself. It's just so gratifying to yank that pup :-(
Arturo and his new fishing hat (a cute hand-me-down from Rodney). He can still be occupied for at least 1/2 hour each day just playing put-on-the-hat/take-off-the-hat.

We declared Ben's bed off-limits to Tucker so that when he is being too rough Ben can escape. Maybe you can give Pedro a safe baby-free spot? We've encouraged Tucker to do NICE things for Ben like bring Ben his toys, rather than smother him with rough toddler love.
Thanks, all! And Jackie - great advice! We've been implementing with increasing success. Of course, at times Pedro will sit in his 'safe space' (a little tent we got for Turo but he doesn't care about) but very close to the door, so that he can still lick Arturo from in there (which sadly/strangly seems to encourage poking and hair pulling). So now we're trying to enforce a ban on the buffer zone around the tent for Arturo, which I think is a little confusing for both dog and boy and also begins to take over the whole living room, but ok, we're getting there!
